You need to look up the IAAF rules on shoes, that is where it came from and I only assume it is still the same rule. What it applies to is that you can't run any world records in shoes that are thicker than a certain amount. It came about many years ago when some high jumpers from another country showed up with high-jumping shoes that had a sole about 3 or 4 inches thick so they were taking off with center of mass a fair bit higher. So the IAAF put in a rule about maximum allowable shoe sole thickness by saying the heel of your foot had to be within so many mm of the ground (which I thought was 20 at the heel and maybe 12 or 15 at the forefoot). It's certainly legal to wear thicker shoes, but not for any world records.(just as you are not allowed to wear shoes with springs in the midsole). It's not illegal to produce such a thick shoe.

"illegal anyway as they put your heel more than the allowable 20mm above the ground"

Really curious about this statement - illegal to make shoes that put the heel >20mm off the ground?

I would like to attend this retreat. I'm running the Wenatchee, WA marathon on April 21st. How many miles per week should I have built up prior to attending the reatreat?

Hi, my name is Carly and I’m part of the team that engages on behalf of 5-Hour Energy.

5-Hour Energy is a clinically tested dietary supplement that has been clinically tested in a randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled crossover scientific study that concluded that the group that consumed 5-Hour Energy demonstrated an increase in alertness and cognitive functions measured over more than a five-hour period versus a control group given a placebo. It is a dietary supplement that blends amino acids, metabolites and caffeine together with B Vitamins to provide a boost in energy and a feeling of alertness without a sudden drop in energy later.

5-Hour Energy might be just the thing to get you up and moving and motivate you for your runs. 5-Hour Energy is not an energy drink, it is a dietary supplement. It is not a replacement for liquids that keep you hydrated. Good hydration is crucial for athletic activities such as running.
